Barry Driver Art - About

My art history and contact details

Barry Driver
Having long painted purely for my own satisfaction, in 2007 I joined the Art Group Nelson, which provided the opportunity to display my paintings in public for the first time. Steady sales then encouraged my successful application to the Nelson Suter Art Society and, more recently, membership of Nelson's Art@203 Gallery and representation at the prestigious ICON Gallery in Upper Moutere, which later moved to the Parker Gallery in central Nelson. I have also had my work exhibited at Nelson's Art Expo, Auckland's Original Art Sale and Wellington's New Zealand Art Show. In 2012, I also completed my first commission piece called After the Rain.

I currently take part in four major local annual group exhibitions plus selected other local and national events and I have a permanent presence at the ART@203 Gallery in Trafalgar Street Nelson, where I also stage an annual solo exhibition, but do drop by any time to view/buy my paintings, limited edition prints and original artwork cards.

Artist Statement

For me, art has no meaning without an observer. The art in a painting is not, therefore, in the skills or techniques employed, but in what they capture and how it affects people. For a person to love a painting, it needs to offer a spark to their imagination and be open to their own interpretation, thereby allowing it to become part of them.
